ANDERS ZORN

GENRE PAINTING

In addition to portraits and nudes, Zorn excelled in realistic depictions of water, as well as in scenes depicting village life and customs.
They fully embodied the impressions collected in Paris.  Zorn vizited an exhibitions of impressionist artists: Monet, Degas, Pissarro, Sisley, Renoir.

He was personally acquainted with many masters and to some extent became an admirer of French impressionism, but not a reckless follower, forever remaining faithful to national traditions in painting and his original talent.  Choosing a motive, Zorn depicted it in a variety of techniques - first in etching and watercolors, and after in oil.

He did many paintings of Mora and its citizens, often painting the common folk in great details as they went about their day today chores.
He loved painting with water colors, and as an aquarellist created some really wonderful pieces of art including "The Thornbush" and "Summer Vacation". He painted his most famous water color "Our Daily Bread" in 1886.  Some of his most important works: "Midsummer Danc", a depiction of dancers in the evening light of a rural Midsummer Eve celebration.

Its seems that portraits of women, genre paintings, landscapes of Zorn were painted very easy but  apparent external lightness was the result of painstaking work in the field of drawing and painting. Having passed in the winter of 1887-1888 to work with oil paints, Zorn remained faithful to the developed manner of writing.  The paintings resemble watercolors;  he paints in oils very fluidly, almost transparently, as if sketchy, here is the same undetectability, "blur" of the contours - but behind all this, as always, excellent mastery of drawing, admiration for volume. In etchings, Zorn's impressionistic gift found a more complete embodiment than in paintings. He is etchings were a tremendous success among artists and the public, and caused many imitation.
